Controversial SA ISSUE: The paper vs the Latest Cop Sex tape scandal

The warder and police woman anout to do the deed
Having watched a debate on special assignment last night regarding the cover story published in the Sowetan newspaper on the Sowetan Live online on the 15th of August about a male warder and police woman engaging in a raunchy sexual act in a government  hospital while on duty, one cannot help but wonder what the world is coming to.  The news has shaken South Africans and the manner in which the story was publsihed is what causes the controversy aroud the entire issue. Many young people are infuriated by this and some want to remain annonymous, I asked around South Campus NMMU of what some of the students think of the incident and their reaction to its publication, from now not only there being explicit pictures but also an explicit 15 minute video of the act. Here are some of the opinions...

Mdumiseni Sibande (22) BA General
I heard about the story but havent read it or seen it, I agree that the acts were published for a good reason, the picture published by the Sowetan is authentic information and verifies the truth for us, yes it was explicit but facts are facts.

Lwazi Mpofu (20) BA Media

I saw the video and there is nothing wrong with the story that came out. These are two adults having consensual sex and it is not like they did not know what they were doing. They were on duty and that is the problem because they should have been on the outlook for the criminal and protecting us. Sowetan could have been sensitive, they should have ommited the graphics and just given us the detail of what happend and the steps taken to reprimand such behaviour.

It's not like these things do not happen, too bad they got caught, they just should have been smart about it!

Nwabisa Ngqoshana (20)  Psychology

I would be embarassed if any one of these two were my parents, I do not think I would have survived the publicity. The newspaper made money out of their story because hey, sex sells! Even if their faces were published they still would have been exposed, it serves them right because they too were unethical.

Anathi Mgoboshe (20) Social work
There was no need to publish the videos or the pictures, there was no need for the whole thing because the information would have been just fine.

Shuhaida Adam (20s) Social work
Its deviant, the faces being exposed would have been better than exposing their bodies, I'd go in hiding if one of them were one of my parents and the fact that their are both wearing wedding rings and are married makes it worse.

It's wrong that the paper published this explicit picture because it was private, they should've just given us the information.

Anonymous
 This will soon blow over

It was unnecessary to publish the pictures, papers are meant to be informative yes, but what about the children of the cop offenders and what about our children who are exposed to this kind of reading content? The damage has been done, these people are parents too and it would have blown over had the editor not inserted this explict picture, we would have been at peace with the information that we have than the graphics.

Sivuyile Jikani (22) BComm Business Management Honours

I have the sex tape, this warder is a disgrace to men! How can you be busy with a woman in the hospital with a gun on your waist? What if it goes off? It should not have been recorded because it is plainly disgusting, I watched special assignment and got bored yesterday because this is nothing new just unfortunate.

I would like to hear as to waht you think about this, post your comments on this cartoon and and let your view be heard....

Community Revolt: Mother of three murdered senselsessly

We all want safety and security and are tired of crime in this country we live in, but what happens when we victimise eachother? How do we react when children are killing their parents, teachers and their peers, where do we draw the line and how do get rid of such cruelty? Communities are ready to take action and take the law into their own hands because they feel the law is failing them and justice is no where near being served.  A mother of three could have never seen her death coming the way it did and now the gruesome details of her death are what leaves the community baying for the blood of the youngsters who committed this crime.

*Nontsikelelo Bandla, a Kwanobuhle resident and primary school teacher at J.N Tulwana Primary lost her life in a gruesome manner on the weekend of the 9th of August, during Women's Month. It is alleged that the teacher had gone out with a friend for drinks and on her way home met the boys who had forced her to go home with them. She got tired on the front stair of their home so the boys got a male assistant who helped carry her into the house. The boys are brothers, one is a pupil to the school Bandla teaches and the other is much older, their mother in the meantime went to visit a friend while the boys brought Bandla into the house and raped her then finished her off by stabbing and hammering her to death inside the house. "They later called the police, and and when the police had arrived they told them that they saw someone being thrown into the backyard for disposal, they think she is dead," said one of the angry protesters at the National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA) teachers' march organised  to fight against the violation of teachers. The boys had implicated themselves as the evidence of the crime they had committed had pointed to them as the culprits. Shortly after, NAPTOSA teachers held a march on the 16th of August where they assembled  at the corner of Bantom and Ntshenge Street at 2 o'clock after school, then proceeded to the house and a memorial service was held for their collegue to show the community and criminals that such injustice is to be condemned. Her memorial service took place on the 18th of August 2011 in St. Peters Episcopal Church in Matazima Road.  The conductor of this burial committee that organised for the march and public participation is secretary E.M Matshaka. The community of Kwanobuhle have become infuriated with these crimes being committed against them because so many people have died senselessly, some of these crimes go unreported or the criminals are on the loose therefore the safety of innocent women, children and men are not guaranteed.
It is alleged that one of the boys, is out on bail and has gone on hiding while the other is still in prison as he is afraid to be in the mercy of the community." I teach one of Mrs Bandla's children, she is in a fragile state about what has happend to her mother and still trying to come to grips with what has happened," added a teacher who teaches one of Bandla's children. Bandla has been laid to rest on Saturday 20th August.

Now the question remains, how do we prevent this kind of crime from happening again and should we now rely on community justice to get even?

The Last Sorry Part 1

The cries of a broken dream called from the eyes of a fragile girl inlove with a man she thought she knew. The good days were gone and the clocks were against her because she could no longer keep track of time. Her man was as unfaithful as the next, no difference between him and the last one she had been with, only that this one lied better, cheated better and knew just when to call and see the other lover. Surely she wanted to believe him and of course it was not so because he said so, after all he loves her and she is special so she should hold on to that. Countless times deceit fed into her mind, the unfaithful thought of her darling being the type to betray her fragile heart, would only do her more harm than good. She was his and he was her's after all because she had disowned all she had that would have gotten in the way of their unknown destiny.
